The UFC returns for its second-to-last pay-per-view offering in 2017 when UFC 218 takes place Saturday, Dec. 2 from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The main event features a rematch as Max Holloway defends the featherweight championship against former titleholder Jose Aldo. In the co-main event, in heavyweight action, former Strikeforce champion and UFC title challenger Alistair Overeem (43-15) battles rising contender Francis Ngannou (10-1). From top-to-bottom this could be the best card of 2017, including the undercard. Here’s everything you need to know about UFC 218.

UFC 218 is Saturday night at the new Little Caesar’s Arena, and a feathweight title fight headlines the event as Max Holloway defends his championship against Jose Aldo. Aldo comes in at 26-3 against Holloway’s 18-3 record. It promises to be a brawl for the belt. Other main card fights include Alistair Overeem vs. Francis Ngannou, Henry Cejudo vs. Sergio Pettis, Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje and finally, Tecia Torres vs. Michelle Waterson.

For Holloway and Aldo, it’s a grudge match. Holloway won the first fight by TKO at UFC 212, and he’ll look to duplicate that result. Aldo, of course, has other plans, as he has said he plans on taking the belt and retiring a champion. All 26 fighters on the card, including featherweight champion Max Holloway (18-3 MMA, 14-3 UFC) and former titleholder Jose Aldo (26-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC), who meet in a rematch in the main event, made weight.

The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale

The UFC’s inaugural women’s flyweight title fight is set and it’s a matchup that few could have predicted. Sijara Eubanks, seeded No. 12 going into The Ultimate Fighter 26 tournament, punched her ticket to the TUF 26 Finale with a unanimous decision win over No. 1 seed Roxanne Modafferi. Eubanks will fight No. 14 seed Nicco Montano on Friday for the right to become the UFC’s first female champion at 125 pounds.

The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale Live 2017

Friday night, the UFC will see an end to its 26th season of The Ultimate Fighter. Live on Fox Sports 1, the card features all but one cast member (Maia Stevenson) competing on the card, including the two women vying for the vacant UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship. In the main event, two underdogs will square off for said flyweight championship. Both fighters have unimpressive records, as 3-2 Nicco Montano will fight 2-2 Sijara Eubanks. Both may have lackluster records but won huge fights over tough competition to earn the right to compete for the title.

Outside of the TUF competitors, there are names on the card such as former bantamweight title challenger Joe Soto, TUF winner Andrew Sanchez and impressive prospect Sean O’Malley. It could be an underrated card that brings some great entertainment. With that, let’s take a look at the card and make some predictions for fight night.

The final weight cut for Eubanks begins. She has the support of the Team Alvarez coaching staff and the motivation that she’s just one weight cut and one win away from putting herself in position to compete for the inaugural UFC women’s flyweight title. Eubanks makes weight with her team the night before the fight and is feeling better than she has going into her previous fights.

At the official weigh-in, Modafferi and Eubanks come in under the 126-pound flyweight limit. A respectful staredown follows. Fight day arrives. Both fighters finalize preparation and warm up with coaches in the backstage locker room. They walk to the octagon, and the second tournament semifinal is about to take place.

Tony Ferguson has waited a long time for his time to shine with a championship belt on the line, and that time has finally arrived as he faces Kevin Lee for the interim UFC lightweight crown. Even without the high stakes involved, this is an interesting matchup of two of the best 155-pounders in the game because while Ferguson has the experience and talent to be rightfully considered the favorite, “El Cucuy” can let his aggression get the better of him at times. That leaves openings for Lee to capitalize on, and while others have failed in finishing off Ferguson when he made mistakes, “The Motown Phenom” isn’t likely to let him off the hook should he get the opportunity to strike, either on the feet or the mat.

UFC 216: Ferguson vs. Lee

In a championship bout that was originally set to headline UFC 215 in Edmonton, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (26-2-1)—arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in MMA—will return to the Octagon this Saturday at UFC 216 in Las Vegas against Ray Borg (12-2), who had to pull out of the previously scheduled matchup due to illness.

Johnson is a monster -1200 favorite (bet $1200 to win $100), with Borg listed as a +700 underdog (bet $100 to win $700) at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.

However, Johnson-Borg will not be the main event at UFC 216, as that is reserved for the interim lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson (22-3) and Kevin Lee (16-2). Unlike the co-main event between Johnson and Borg, the Ferguson-Lee bout is expected to be much more competitive.
