It wasn’t all that long ago that the Golden State Warriors were taking flak from other teams for tanking in order to retain the draft pick that eventually brought us Harrison Barnes. Now the tables have completely turned and Barnes finds himself as a core piece of a Dallas Mavericks team that is finding more success tanking for sweet draft picks than they are at winning ballgames. Sadly for all of us watching, we are yet again deprived of seeing the Curry brothers go up against each other on the court. With both of them dealing with leg injuries, the game will be just a little bit less fun.
The Dallas Mavericks (8-20, 13-14-1 ATS) are coming off a surprising six-point victory over the Spurs at home, ending their three-game losing streak. The game was closely contested throughout, but the Mavericks’ defense gave Dallas the edge and the win. Dallas held the Spurs to 40.2 percent shooting, limiting San Antonio to just 89 points and spoiling Kawhi Leonard’s return to action for the first time this season. Harrison Barnes led the way for Dallas, scoring 17 points, while JJ Barea played well in limited minutes with 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
The Golden State Warriors (22-6, 13-15 ATS) defeated the Portland Trail Blazers by seven at home Monday night, giving them their seventh win in a row. Golden State led most of the way but had to fight off the surging Trail Blazers late to ensure victory without superstar point guard Steph Curry. Reigning NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant paced the Warriors scoring 28 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Klay Thompson also played great, recording 24 points. Damian Lillard led all scorers, exploding for 39 points in a losing cause.
